The Vital Natural Green Tones of Parks & Gardens

THIS POST IS ABOUT THE incomparable and very varied green tones of the ‘floral world’ or plant kingdom. All featured photographs were taken in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. It has been noted that all things being equal the various green tones of the natural world have a generally soothing effect on human beings. To learn more about this phenomenon perhaps you would like to check out the works of Christopher Alexander [1936 – 2022] via the following link: http://www.christopher-alexander-ces-archive.org

  • With reference to Nature, Christopher Alexander and his Team once wrote in their deservedly celebrated architectural handbook, A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction, (Alexander C, Ishikawa S, Silverstein M: 1977): – “The trees that people love create special social places: places to be in, and pass through, places you can dream about, and places you can draw. Trees have the potential to create various kinds of social places …”

A Literary excerpt about gardens …

TO SUPPORT THIS THEME ABOUT the importance of green landscaping and gardens in general, here is the touching fragment of a Poem by Emily Jane Brontë, expressing her poignant longing for a familiar garden environment (1838): –

“The mute bird sitting on the stone,

The dark moss dripping from the wall,

The garden-walk with weeds overgrown,

I love them all – how I love them all.”

Harmony & the enclosing beauty of garden spaces

IT CAN very quickly be ascertained that various Texts both Sacred and Secular are full of references that reflect upon the importance of a garden environment.

IT IS A TESTIMONY TO the living, breathing vitality of gardens to note that we can always benefit from finding some space outdoors to reconnect with loved ones, friends, associates and peers at a roundtable, perhaps, in the green of a garden environment; maybe because the embracing green tones of Nature lend us Hope.
